Stay at Château d'Urtubie
Le Château d'Urturbie Hôtel You will descend further south to reach Saint-Jean-de-Luz, where you will drop off your suitcases. You will be welcomed at the Château d'Urtubie, a historic monument, where the kings Louis XI and Louis XIV stayed. This fortified castle, enlarged in the 16th and 18th centuries, houses very elegant and refined "castle" style rooms.
Magnificent landscapes of the Basque cornice
CDT64 From Saint-Jean-de-Luz to Hendaye, you can discover the Basque cornice while strolling along the coastal path. You will enjoy magnificent views of the ocean and the hinterland. Mountains on one side, beaches, cliffs, heather heaths on the other… The panorama is worth the detour!
Heritage and nature in the Rhune massif
CDT64 To enjoy the sun and nature, the ascent of the La Rhune massif will be perfect. It is the typical mountain of the Basque Country which will offer you a very nice panorama. You will certainly come across pottocks and manech sheep. You will also come across megalithic stones attesting to the presence of prehistoric men on this site. And if you no longer want to walk, the little cog train will take you to the summit, 905 m above sea level. At the foot of this massif, you can also visit the village of Sare, classified among the most beautiful villages in France.
Festivals and tradition in the Basque Country
CDT64 You will not be able to get to know the Basque Country without examining the habits and customs of this region. You will therefore have to, (among many other things!) Play Basque pelota, taste the garbure and delicious Bayonne ham, and if you pass by here on October 29 and 30, participate in the chilli festival in Espelette!
Auberge du Cheval blanc You will end this pleasant stay by visiting the Basque Country with your taste buds and the seasonal, refined and creative cuisine of the Michelin-starred chef at the Auberge du cheval blanc in Bayonne.
