The Gardens of Valloires

It is in a setting rich in history that the Jardins de Valloire flourish. Although relatively young, they surround a building several centuries old, the Cistercian abbey of Valloires dating from the 12th century, around which they form a very coherent green setting. They were designed in 1987 by Gilles Clément, an internationally renowned landscaper, who took it upon himself to make them gardens "which integrate the botanical collection, while respecting the wild environment and the historic character of the place". Today, they extend over 8 hectares and integrate a botanical collection of more than 5,000 species of plants and shrubs.

R.Jacq SMBS-GLP In spring, nature wakes up ... and so do gardeners! Valloires employs six gardeners to maintain its eight hectares. A mission that requires attention to detail and aesthetics as well as great vigilance and good planning to be carried out. Let us now give the floor to Gilles Clément (The free gardens): "Each piece of land can be considered as a piece of the Earth, each garden, like the fragment of a much larger garden, extended to the limits of the planet ... As for eternity, you shouldn't worry too much, the garden bends to the seasons but it abolishes time "

R.Jacq SMBS-GLP In spring, the flowering of fruit trees is always a delight, multiplied here by the number of trees and their shape which invites the visitor to walk under a flowered dome. No less than 40 cherry trees with large white flowers, double and fragrant, come together to form this magical alley in April.

Baie Attitude SMBS-GLP The rose is undoubtedly the flower with the richest symbolism. It has been celebrated by all civilizations, at all times, sung by musicians, told by poets ... At the Valloires gardens, it is also put in all sauces in the strict sense, since it is part of the composition of many culinary preparations offered within the domain. L.Dupont SMBS-GLP We have left the gardens, and yet… fruit and vegetables are spread out again before our eyes. In his restaurant "La Table du Jardinier", chef Ludovic Dupont offers creative botanical cuisine based on local products, plants and flowers from the garden.

L.Dupont SMBS-GLP This table with cheerful and gourmet accents also recalls all the smells and all the flavors of the garden. Pumpkin cream, rose sorbet, rosemary bread: these are some of the refinements offered at La Table du Jardinier.

R. Jacq SMBS-GLP Before ringing the end of the visit, let us recall all the services offered by the abbey: a hotel (Louis XV style suites or monastic rooms with a view of the cloister.), A restaurant, a shop and finally a garden center where the nostalgic can find perennial plants, old roses and rare shrubs seen in the garden.
